【Job Description】 ## About OptQC OptQC is a deep-tech startup spun out of the University of Tokyo, founded with the mission of achieving the social implementation and commercialization of "optical quantum computers." While multiple modalities exist in the quantum computing landscape, we focus on the optical quantum approach. We are confident that this method is the most suitable for practical application and widespread adoption due to its inherent scalability and seamless integration with optical communications. Through continuous research and development, we aim to balance energy efficiency with high computing power, overcome the limits of human information processing, and contribute to a sustainable society. ## Background Many unresolved challenges remain in the research and development of photonic quantum computers. In particular, achieving error correction and non-linear operations requires a special type of quantum light known as "non-Gaussian states." Our mission is to accelerate the realization of fault-tolerant photonic quantum computers by conducting fundamental research on the efficient generation, manipulation, and measurement of these non-Gaussian states. We are seeking individuals who will enjoy taking on this academic challenge together with us. ## Key Responsibilities In this position, you will conduct fundamental research (both experimental and theoretical) aimed at realizing a fault-tolerant universal optical quantum computer. For the experimental work, you will handle complex optical setups utilizing optical fibers, free-space optics, and optical waveguides. The specific research topics are as follows: - Experimental generation of GKP states - Implementation of cubic phase gates - Realization of low-loss, high-speed optical switches - Theoretical and experimental research toward the realization of high-purity non-Gaussian states ## The Role & Impact The implementation of "non-Gaussian quantum gates" and "error correction operations"—the very foundation of photonic quantum computers—are unresolved challenges that the world has yet to overcome. In this position, armed with cutting-edge experimental facilities and technical expertise, you will be able to tackle these global challenges at the forefront. We also welcome academic outreach, including publishing papers, presenting at international conferences, and acquiring patents. 【Required Qualifications】 - Degree: Master’s or Ph.D. in one of the following fields: - Optics: Quantum Optics, Lasers, optical frequency combs, integrated optical circuits, nonlinear optics - Quantum: Condensed matter physics, quantum information - Language Skills: English proficiency at a level sufficient for smooth communication with other researchers - Experimental Experience: Hands-on experience in optical experiments - Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to independently explore solutions and iteratively solve unknown/unresolved challenges - Technical Skills: Experience of measurements and evaluations using basic programming skills (e.g., Python) 【Preferred Qualifications】 - Experience writing scientific papers as a first author - Experience in both experimental and theoretical research - Conversational proficiency in Japanese - Experience working at a quantum computing-related company - Experience managing research projects, or mentoring young/junior researchers - Knowledge of nonlinear optics - Knowledge of optical frequency combs and pulsed light - Knowledge of quantum optics and photonic quantum information processing - Knowledge of superconducting devices (superconducting photodetectors) 【Ideal Candidate Profile】 - Individuals who understand hardware from first principles and can navigate both technology and theory. - Individuals who possess deep expertise in their own field while maintaining a strong motivation to take on diverse challenges. - Individuals who are eager to co-create new value with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and organizations. 【Salary】 13 million JPY or more (Determined based on experience and skills) 【Employment Type】 Full-time 【Hiring Process】 - Document Screening *Please submit a publication list - Interview (2–3 rounds) *Includes a research / work presentation - Offer Meeting [Additional Information] - Interviews are generally conducted online; however, candidates will be required to visit our office at least once. - Please consult with us if this is difficult for you. - Transportation expenses will be reimbursed for candidates traveling from distant locations (subject to company regulations). - Reference checks may be requested during the selection process. - The selection process and the number of interview rounds are subject to change. 【Work Hours】 - Discretionary work system: Deemed as 8 hours per day. 【Allowances】 - Transportation allowance (Up to JPY 100,000 per month) 【Holidays & Vacations】 - Two days off a week (Saturday and Sunday) - National holidays, Year-end and New Year holidays - Annual Pai
