【Job Description】 ## About OptQC OptQC is a deep-tech startup spun out of the University of Tokyo, founded with the mission of achieving the social implementation and commercialization of "optical quantum computers." While multiple modalities exist in the quantum computing landscape, we focus on the optical quantum approach. We are confident that this method is the most suitable for practical application and widespread adoption due to its inherent scalability and seamless integration with optical communications. Through continuous research and development, we aim to balance energy efficiency with high computing power, overcome the limits of human information processing, and contribute to a sustainable society. ## Background The Architecture Unit plays a broad role in the design of optical quantum computers—ranging from conceptual design and evaluation of future systems to detailed design based on existing technologies. To accelerate our R&D toward realizing optical quantum computing, we are currently strengthening our team. In this role, we are seeking high-potential, growth-oriented individuals who have a strong interest in optical quantum information and the ambition to eventually lead world-class, cutting-edge technology from the high-level architecture layer. ## Key Responsibilities The R&D (Research & Development) department is the core of our business growth and the source of our competitive advantage. In this position, you will conduct foundational research (both experimental and theoretical) aimed at realizing a fault-tolerant universal optical quantum computer. Your primary responsibility will be the design and demonstration experiments related to the overall architecture of optical quantum computers. More specifically, you will lead research on photonic quantum computing architectures. Your responsibilities will include: - Developing system configurations encompassing quantum circuits, optical systems, and control systems, and validating their feasibility. - Proposing and validating novel photonic quantum computing architectures. - Developing and validating novel quantum error-correcting codes. - Working with experimental teams to define system requirements and specifications. - Providing technical analysis and design support for R&D projects. - Evaluating the performance of quantum computing systems and identifying system bottlenecks. - Participating in design reviews and technical discussions, and preparing technical documentation within the team. ## The Role & Impact In this role, you will directly contribute to the realization of practical optical quantum computers—a breakthrough attracting global attention—from the high-level perspective of system architecture design. Furthermore, because you will be responsible for overall system design, you can engage with various internal R&D processes, allowing you to gain deep expertise in state-of-the-art knowledge and technologies. 【Required Qualifications】 - Degree: Master’s or Ph.D. in one of the following fields: - Optics (e.g., lasers, optical frequency combs, integrated optical circuits, nonlinear optics, optical communications) - Quantum (e.g., quantum information theory, quantum information physics, quantum optics) - Language Skills: English proficiency sufficient for smooth communication with other researchers and quantum computing experts. - Experience: 2+ years of experience in R&D for continuous-variable (CV) optical quantum computing (including research during Master’s/Ph.D. programs, either experimental or theoretical). - Knowledge & Expertise: - Proficiency in handling bosonic systems, generation/verification/evaluation of CV quantum entanglement, foundational knowledge of non-Gaussian states (e.g., Schrödinger's cat states, Fock states, GKP states), and foundational knowledge of CV quantum computing (including universal quantum computing and quantum error correction). - Deep understanding of the theory behind continuous-variable quantum error correction (QEC). - Numerical computation skills required for QEC research, such as calculating fault-tolerance thresholds and error rates. - R&D experience with bosonic codes, such as GKP codes and Cat codes. - R&D experience with continuous-variable error correction architectures. - Foundational knowledge of experiments related to continuous-variable optical quantum computers. 【Preferred Qualifications】 - Experience writing papers as a first author. - Experience writing academic papers as the corresponding author. - Experience in both experimental and theoretical research. - Conversational proficiency in Japanese. - Experience working at a quantum computing-related company. 【Ideal Candidate Profile】 - Individuals who understand hardware from first principles and can navigate both technology and theory. - Individuals who possess deep expertise in their own field while maintaining a strong motivation to take on diverse challenges. - Individuals who are eager to co-create new value wi
